"Girls shouldn't be hit,
not even with a flower"

Do you know that...?

Today we celebrate...
the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.

According to the United Nations ...
Prevention is the 2015 theme of the International Day
for the Elimination of Violence against Women on 25 November.

Why this International Day?

  • Violence against women is a human rights violation
  • Violence against women is a consequence of discrimination against women, in law and also in practice, and of persisting inequalities between men and women
  • Violence against women impacts on, and impedes, progress in many areas, including poverty eradication, combating HIV/AIDS, and peace and security
  • Violence against women and girls is not inevitable. Prevention is possible and essential
  • Violence against women continues to be a global pandemic.

On this special occasion,
we have selected a different video
to make people aware about this problem in our society.

Before watching the video, can you answer the following questions?

                                                  1- What's your name?
                                                  2.- How old are you?
3.- What do you want to be when you grow up? Why?

Now, watch the video and discover the message ...

( "Slap her"  is a video by Fanpage.it to their YouTube channel, Fanpage Media.)

What's the message?

If you need any help with your English (or with your Italian),
you can watch the following video with Spanish subtitles:

"In the kids' world
Women don't get hit".

                                                         (Alessandro, 6 years old)

I'm against violence...
And you?

This post is the first one without a video with MUSIC.
On this occasion, I would like you select the music for this post.
Write a comment with the title of the song you would select for this
International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.

In Spain
We celebrate today ...

the Library Day

…to raise awareness among people
on the importance of Libraries
in our society as a cultural meeting point
for readers of all ages and backgrounds.

"Books" (Department of Modern languages. CEPA Edrissis. Ceuta.)

By the way,
Do you know the Spanish word for LIBRARY?

Which of the following translations is the correct one?

a) LIBRERÍA          b) LIBRETA         c) BIBLIOTECA

The word "LIBRARY" is an example of "False Friend" (or "falso amigo", in Spanish),
because it is written in a similar way to a Spanish word, but the meaning is totally different.

(* You can have a look at more examples of  FALSE FRIENDS.)

What can you do in a LIBRARY?

Mark with a tick the correct answers:

Read books, comics, e-books, maps, ...

Visit expositions

Read newspapers, magazines, …

Use internet

Meet interesting people (writers, …)

Watch films, listen to audio-books, …

Make friends (who love reading)

Use encyclopaedias, dictionaries, …

Enlarge your culture
... among many other things
(apart from studying -of course)

According to the dictionary...
A Library is a place containing books, recordings, or other reading, viewing or listening materials arranged and cataloged in a fixed way.

Do you normally go to libraries?
What for?

To commemorate that date, the Library Day,
we have selected a video recorded in a Public Library (TOLEDO, 2013)

Before watching the video,
Imagine any Public Library...

Can you guess what it is going to happen?

That social phenomenon is called a flashmob.

A flashmob is a group of people who meet suddenly in a public place
and perform an unusual act for a brief time before quickly dispersing.

They are often organized via Internet / Social Media.

Using Wikipedia in Spanish
You can learn more about this new term here.

Can you think about the Spanish equivalent of FLASHMOB? (in only one word)

Talking about MUSIC,..

Do you know the MUSIC that appear on the previous video?
( Listen to MUSIC at 2'55'')

You can DISCOVER the MUSIC using...

Shazam is an app for smartphones that identifies MUSIC.

It is one of the world's most popular apps,
used by more than 100 million people each month
to identify music, artists and get song lyrics.

The result is shown on the screen
complete with different details.

And the best of all...
... It is FREE !!

Pay attention and Remember the Chorus of the song.
Don't forget it
during the whole school year:

'Cause you're a sky full of stars
I'm gonna give you my heart
... and 'cause you light up the path

So... Remember:

Don't be silly!

You "simply" are...

("A Sky Full Of Stars")

A piece of advice:

"Whatever you do,
no matter how hard it may be,

If you are interested, you can follow the lyrics (from the chorus of the songs) here:

'Cause I give you all of me
And you give me all of you, ohoh

'Cause the players gonna play, play, play, play, play
And the haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate
Baby, I'm just gonna shake, shake, shake, shake, shake
I shake it off, I shake it off

‘Cause you're a sky, cause you're a sky full of stars                                                                                                                                              I think I saw you

So am I wrong?
For thinking that we could be something for real?
(Oh yeah yeah yeah)

I’m gonna swing from the chandelier                                                                                                                                                                        From the chandelier

This is the part when I say I don't want ya
I'm stronger than I've been before
This is the part when I break free
'Cause I can't resist it no more

Because you know I'm all about that bass,
'Bout that bass 'bout that bass, no treble
I'm all 'bout that bass,

Because I’m happy
Clap along if you feel like a room without a roof
Because I’m happy
Clap along if you feel like happiness is the truth

So I'm following the map that leads to you
The map that leads to you
Ain't nothing I can do
The map that leads to you

Why you gotta be so rude?
Don't you know I'm human too?

Hey baby, even though I hate ya
I wanna love ya
I want you-u-u

When I am with you, there's no place I'd rather be
No place I'd rather be x2
